It’s nice to have a relaxing self-care day at home, but we all know it’s not quite the same as a trip to the spa. There are a few key elements a spa has that your bathroom might not offer at the moment. However, there are some things you can do to bring the spa experience home.

7  Bathroom Ideas To Create A Spa-Inspired Sanctuary

1

Treat Yourself to New Towels

Few things feel more luxurious than a plush towel. That’s one of the reasons spas never skimp on them! If your towels are becoming worn, or if you just want a few extra fluffy towels, invest in new ones to make your bathroom feel like a spa. We recommend Turkish cotton in neutral colors for that true spa look and feel.

2

Add Aromatherapy

A spa-inspired bathroom isn’t complete without aromatherapy! Lavender and eucalyptus are popular stress-relieving scents that are commonly used in spas. Chamomile, rosemary, ylang-ylang, and vetiver are also popular choices for relaxation. Citrus oils like orange, lemon, and lime are thought to be energizing and promote happiness. Use just one scent at a time or create your own custom blend!

To get the full spa aromatherapy experience, we recommend using essential oils. These oils are extracted from plants and capture the plant’s scent and flavor. In other words, their essence. Essential oils are available at many upscale grocery stores like Whole Foods, and many big box stores. Of course, you can find a wide variety online!

Add a few drops of your essential oils to your bubble bath or diffuse them to infuse the entire bathroom with your favorite scents. You can also add a few drops to your body lotion or body oil and wear the scent all day long.

3

Create Ambiance With Candles

Candles are a must-have if you want to make your bathroom feel more like a spa. Large jar candles or pillar candles with plate holders will provide long-lasting ambiance, but tealights are a good choice if you don’t have a lot of counter space.

If you’re diffusing essential oils, we recommend using unscented candles. You can also get aromatherapy benefits from candles, though! There is a wide variety of candles that are infused with essential oils in popular stress-relieving scents.

4

Take Your Bath to the Next Level With a Bathtub Caddy

Use a bathtub caddy (sometimes called a tray) to hold everything you need to enjoy a relaxing soak: your phone or tablet (for streaming your favorite show, not for answering emails!), a book, your beverage, and maybe a candle. Teak or bamboo trays are the classic choices, but you can also find marble trays for an extra dose of luxury. Some trays even have grooves to hold your book, phone, or tablet in place so you don’t have to worry about them slipping into the tub.

5

Wrap Yourself in a Comfy Robe

When you get out of the bath, take your face masks, deep conditioning treatments, and home manicures to the next level by wrapping yourself in a luxurious bathrobe. Step out of the tub and into a Turkish cotton bathrobe or wrap yourself in a fleece robe for a relaxing at-home spa experience.

Upgrade Your Soap Dispensers & Containers

Keeping your shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. in their original bottles is perfectly practical, but it creates a lot of visual noise in the bathroom. Bottles are different colors and sizes with labels designed to be eye-catching. All that visual noise can really take away from your bathroom’s spa atmosphere.

Purchasing reusable glass bottles and pumps that match your bathroom decor is a quick and easy way to make your bathroom more spa-like. You can find a variety of reusable bottles with simple labels for each product on sites like Etsy. (You may even be able to refill them at bulk stores, cutting down on plastic waste in the process. That’s a win-win!)

7

Decorate With Plants

Complete your bathroom’s spa-inspired transformation by adding some plants. And if your bathroom doesn’t get a lot of natural light, don’t worry! There are plenty of houseplants that thrive in the low-light, high-humidity environment your bathroom offers. Some of the most popular are succulents, orchids, snake plants, philodendrons, bamboo, ferns, and air plants.

In addition to brightening up your bathroom, these plants help purify the air, produce oxygen, and may even increase creativity!
